Therapeutic Support
At Oakwood Education, we believe that emotional wellbeing is fundamental to learning, growth, and personal development. Our therapeutic provision is designed to support and empower young people by providing a safe, nurturing environment where they can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
We offer individual Creative Psychotherapy sessions that are tailored to the unique needs of each learner. Using a child-centred approach, sessions are adapted to suit the young person's age, interests, communication style, and emotional needs. Our therapeutic support combines a range of evidence-based approaches to provide holistic and personalised care.
The aim of therapy is to create a positive and trusting space where young people feel safe to express themselves, build self-awareness, develop confidence and resilience, and strengthen their sense of self-worth. Through this process, learners are encouraged to better understand their emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, and feel empowered in their everyday lives.
Sessions incorporate both verbal and non-verbal therapeutic interventions, recognising that not all young people find it easy to communicate through words alone. Creative and experiential approaches allow learners to explore and express their feelings in ways that feel comfortable and accessible to them.
Our therapeutic approaches include:
Body and Movement Psychotherapy
This approach uses movement, body awareness, mindfulness, breathing techniques, and creative expression to support emotional regulation and wellbeing. It helps young people develop greater awareness of the connection between their physical sensations, emotions, and behaviours, while encouraging self-expression and self-confidence.
Sand Therapy
Sand therapy provides a safe and contained space where young people can create scenes and stories using sand and symbolic figures. This creative process allows them to express thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to put into words, supporting reflection, understanding, and emotional growth.
Creative Arts and Play-Based Interventions
A range of creative materials and play-based activities are available to provide engaging, age-appropriate therapeutic support. These approaches encourage exploration, communication, and self-expression in a non-threatening and supportive environment.
Through our therapeutic provision, we aim to help every young person feel heard, valued, and supported as they develop the skills and confidence needed to thrive both in education and beyond.

Alongside core academic learning, programmes incorporate vocational opportunities such as cooking, sport, and outdoor education, supporting the development of life skills, teamwork, and resilience. Small group sizes allow for differentiated teaching, increased engagement, and strong relationships, enabling learners to build confidence, independence, and transferable skills for future pathways.
